Provisional Patent applications
Decree-Law Nº 143/2008 of July 25 has introduced significant changes to the Industrial Property Code.
With the entry into force of this decree-law, it became possible to apply for Portuguese provisional patent applications. Recently, the National Institute of Industrial Property has published a new statistical study on the Provisional Patent Applications, which includes statistics for the first quarter of 2010. Interestingly, in that study reveals that the percentage of provisional patent applications applied for since from October 2008, represent about 43% of total applications for invention, having been presented in the period under consideration, a total of provisional patent applications 413 of which 75 were converted.
